G. loomis salmon rods are designed for a special technique called mooching. This style of fishing is done from a boat by slowly trolling or drifting with the wind or tide. Both methods are effective, but each requires a rod that will allow the fish to chew on the bait and pull it down without much resistance. That's why our salmon rods reature a soft, moderate action. It lets the rod bend easily when the fish first hits the bait so he'll hang on a little longer (at which point, you set the hook and hang on a lot longer).
